Drone Strike Triggers Large Fire at Russian Black Sea Oil Refinery
The governor of Russia’s Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratyev, described the incident as a “massive” blaze at the Tuapse refinery, calling it “another serious emergency” in the area.
He said emergency crews are actively working to contain the fire, with 164 personnel and 46 units of equipment deployed at the site. Kondratyev added that additional response teams are expected to join the operation as efforts continue.
Authorities also reported that residents living near the facility are being evacuated, with a temporary shelter established at a nearby school to accommodate those affected.
The Tuapse refinery, located along the Black Sea, has been repeatedly targeted in recent weeks, with multiple drone strikes reported against both the facility and the nearby port infrastructure. Local officials previously confirmed environmental damage, including an oil spill linked to earlier attacks.
Ukrainian military officials have acknowledged carrying out strikes on the refinery in recent days, framing them as part of efforts to weaken Russia’s military-economic capacity.
Meanwhile, Russian defense authorities stated that air defenses intercepted and destroyed a large number of drones across several regions, including Krasnodar, as well as over the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and Crimea.
